Garden storage solution
Getting the garden summer-ready with clever storage solutions is not so much a luxury but rather a necessity.
With outdoor living high priority over the summer months, our gardens are filled to the brim with all the added extras from seat cushions to BBQ accessories, garden toys and bikes, let alone the regular occupants of every garden shed. So invest in clever storage that hides the clutter, frees up your space, and most importantly makes your garden the perfect summer hangout.
The brief
When Cutshop® Mt Wellington was approached for a storage box cut out the brief was simple. The goal was to build a garage for the Automower, keeping it out of the elements can only help extend its life. Somewhat simple!
As the automower starts and stops on its own the client wanted a door that opened and closed on its own, And as the design of the door mechanism was not a Cutshop® part of the project, having perfectly matching parts that were cut by Cutshop® made this much easier!
Given that the frame of the garage slots together without any screws the cuts needed to be precise. Cutshop® modified the original digital drawings to match with the thickness of available Gaboon marine ply and delivered perfectly cut panels.
Planning your garden storage
Step 1:
Make a list of all the things you want to be stored away and be realistic. Do you have sports equipment taking up space? How often is the lawnmower used? Do the kids spread their toys far and wide? Do you need a woodshed for the log fire come winter?
Step 2:
Think about how you use your garden. Do you have a habit of leaving the garden tools by the veggie patch instead of back in the shed or garage? What are the pieces of garden equipment you use most often and need to have to hand?
Accessibility is essential when planning for effective garden storage, there is nothing more infuriating when you want to do a quick gardening job but know that one tool you want is behind three bikes, two scooters, the lawnmower and an old dog bed.
Step 3:
Design your perfect garden storage. Invisibility is key when it comes to having good storage that blends in with nature and the aesthetics of your garden.
Identify areas of empty space that could house a storage box.
Go below deck - do you have space below your deck? Add a trapdoor and turn that space into a place to store the items you use less frequently and can handle a bit of rainwater.
Hit two birds with one stone by designing with multifunction in mind: bench seats with hidden storage being a popular choice.
Utilise your BBQ area: Barbeque cabinetry is a great solution to store away those extra bits and pieces. Whether you incorporate your current BBQ and design a freestanding cabinet to go alongside or create a custom integrated BBQ cabinet area, you will have something sleek and stylish that adds pure aesthetic value to your garden.
