A ‘brand’ new reception
Create a lasting impact with a bespoke reception desk.
The power of the first impression should never be undervalued when it comes to business. With only one shot to get it right, taking extra care to create an impressive reception area that reflects both your brand and the high quality of service or product you supply can pay off dividends.
Brandt Ashley, Business Manager for Ashley Aesthetics in Wellington, NZ knows exactly how important those first few moments are when a client walks through the door. As a boutique business specialising in Appearance Medicine, Brandt understood that the reception space needed to reflect the high standards and quality of their business, and dedicated a lot of time to make the office and treatment rooms look special, warm and timeless.
To achieve the right look the reception area needed a bespoke sized desk unique to their brand that could accommodate a small space. With an idea in mind, Brandt took to google to search for a place to turn it into a reality and came upon Cutshop® Waikato.
For the main desk we used 25mm woodgrain particle board in Silver Strata from the Melteca range by Laminex and for the contrasting black panel, the client selected 25mm woodgrain particle board in Blackened Legno from the same Melteca range by Laminex.
The finished desk has sleek edges and the dramatic contrasting black panel creates an elegant look for the reception area.
How to create a lasting first impression
Your brand starts here. No matter the business, large or small, the first impression needs to reflect the personality of the business. As such, focus on a reception desk that is an extension of that brand.
Are you a fun, quirky, energetic business - the desk should show that energy with creative lines, a unique cut out, and interesting colours.
Is your business more formal and timeless - your reception desk should invoke a feeling of trust and effectiveness with clean colours, strong lines, and a simple aesthetic.
Design your own reception desk
As the focal point of the reception, ensure your desk has exactly the look you want whilst also being functional for its purpose.
For a smaller space, ensure the surface of the desk is clutter-free and design into the body of the desk, enough drawers and storage for all the necessities.
Make sure your logo is visible and present by either incorporating it into the design of the desk in the form of a cutout or even etched into the desk with CNC router cutting.

Tips to style your reception
COLOUR
Use your brand colours to influence your décor. Simple white or beige walls are easy to maintain but do little to reflect your brand. Incorporating your brand colours can create a positive and affirming atmosphere, setting that first interaction with new clients as a great start. GREEN SPACE
The benefits of indoor plants are bountiful, from purifying the air to creating a calming and productive environment. With a huge array of choices whether a simple desktop plant or a vertical garden, indoor plants create a positive and powerful impression. LIGHTING
The correct lighting is a powerful tool and for your reception incorporate natural lighting as much as possible. Chose the right paint to reduce glare, add a skylight if possible, and add soft furnishings that soften the light.
