Beach house cottage kitchen renovation
Is it possible to update a kitchen and still retain its charm? For this little beach house cottage, it’s exactly what was achieved by kitchen designers Peter and Rachel Hill from Citywide Kitchens for their clients.
As their main source of manufacturing, Peter and Rachael worked with Cutshop® North Shore for all the cabinet cutting and edging, and as with any kitchen renovation attention to detail was key to ensure the perfect outcome regarding both style and functionality.
Their vision for this property was to utilize the small space to its absolute potential.
Being a beach house there are decks with french doors and bifold windows on both sides of the kitchen making this space the heart of the home and the main thoroughfare for the family. They knew this space had to accommodate the comings and goings of lots of people and so designed the kitchen to have a central island which gave space to those simply wanting to head for a quick dip in the ocean and those grabbing a coffee to take on the deck or preparing the evening meal.
Alabaster / Black Forest
Rachael and Peter chose light colours, with clear glass and pale blue splashback to reflect the water that is at the front door of the property: the lacquer doors and panels in “Alabaster” create a simple but striking contrast with the Black Forest granite benchtop with quartz veins to symbolise water flow.
“Sometimes less is actually more. The most stylish and sophisticated kitchens are pure simplicity as the designers know their products and applications,” says Rachael.
All of this is carefully unified with the black carcass of each cabinet and the curves of the handles. Everything was designed with seamless lines and clear from clutter, which is why they incorporated single drawers that housed smaller drawers within.
Peter, Rachael and their clients are all absolutely thrilled with the finished kitchen. The space is so light and airy and the clear glass in the pantry shows the simplicity and beach cottage house feel.
