New build, fresh looks

Jason Bagnall from Auckland’s North Shore is a boat builder by trade, with an extensive background in woodwork and a family also in the boat building industry.

After ten years of working in the same area of his field, Jason moved into a sales role to explore more aspects of what he could do. He now sells composite materials (like fibreglass and carbon fibre etc.) to boat builders as the New Zealand Sales Manager for Gurit Asia Pacific.

Jason collaborated with the team from Cutshop® North Shore to materialise his visions for some of the interiors in his new-build home. The design of the build was a two-year process, and after speaking with the team, Jason saw how much money he’d save when creating the kitchen and cabinetry in comparison to working with the kitchen designers he’d used in his other home.

He wanted to make an open space with plenty of room to move around and large windows so that natural light could flood in. Having the skills to put everything together himself, Jason had the freedom to design whatever he wanted as he knew he’d be able to assemble everything with ease.

Chelbe from Cutshop® North Shore shared insights and technical advice throughout the process, and took the concepts from Jason’s pictures, turning them into a measured design for the house.

When it came to materials, Jason was familiar with all kinds of wood, but his decisions for the house were cost-driven. After weighing up different options, he went with a satin finish on a standard white MDF.

I would definitely recommend Cutshop’s services. They’re owner-operated and have such smooth processes.
— Jason

There were no major deadlines with this undertaking, and Jason says he changed the dates quite often because he initially engaged Cutshop® too early on in the process - but he says they were super flexible with their workflow and were able to fit in with Jason.

Overall, the outcome was wonderful and Jason enjoys the space with his wife and young daughter every day. It’s the perfect size for entertaining, and the clean, white drawers and cupboards create smooth lines, making the space seem even larger than it is.
