Extreme capacity.

Delivering Joiners Extreme Capacity.

When you run a small business, it’s almost impossible to do everything yourself.  And, from a business point of view, it also doesn’t make much sense to be all things to all men.

In this post, we talk to the owner of Extreme Joinery Concepts, Craig Fergus, about how Cutshop® has helped to improve his business by delivering capacity without the capital input.

Established in 2004, Extreme Joinery Concepts designs and manufactures high-quality kitchens.

The ‘extreme’ in the name, says Craig, was chosen because they like to do things differently — they just don't make ‘every day’ kitchens.

Why use Cutshop®?

Cutshop® invests in state-of-the-art machinery so that tradies don’t have to.

And there isn’t much we can’t cut, including MDF, laminated timber, veneer, Perspex, acrylic sheets & panels, polystyrene and aluminium.

After going on a Cutshop® Mt Wellington factory tour, three years ago Craig decided to give the business a try.

Their edge banding and CNC machines are really high-end. The edge bander, for example, has three different glue options. Using Cutshop® means my business benefits from this machinery without the capital tie-up.

How Cutshop® works

Though Cutshop® can use a basic drawing, Craig specifies the components for his kitchens using Cutshop® software.

“Karl from Cutshop® Mt Wellington helped me download the software on my laptop and gave me a bit of training.

It has a library of different types of cabinets. So, for example, if you want a base cabinet with one drawer you have a range of options to choose from.”

Though he usually supplies his own, Craig says you can also order types of material and hardware, such as hinges and drawers.  “It’s a bit like a restaurant menu.”

These days Craig emails a file to Cutshop® North Shore, which is now his closest Cutshop® franchise, so that they can cut out the components.

Craig says he likes being able to input specifications himself because it enables him to get exactly what he wants.   “I use a different machining path to a lot of other joiners.”

Cutshop® has made a big difference to his business because the business gives him the capacity to handle more work without massive overheads. “They’re excellent to deal with, and nothing seems to be a problem.
