Made New Again
When you’re in the business of women’s fashion, it’s all about making a lasting impression.
Sitting in the centre of Knuefermann, a luxury women’s clothing store in Ponsonby, sits a designer desk.
Far from your ordinary customer service counter, this piece is elegant and bold. Its dark brown walnut finish is inviting, making it the perfect spot for customers to enjoy a styling session while relaxing over a glass of bubbly.
It was intended as a visual piece to draw the customer into the store in a welcoming way. The design was a slightly modified version of the store’s previous centerpiece, which had grown tired over the years and needed replacing.
The previous piece was designed by leading architect Andre Hodgkin. After they removed it Turet had always missed it and said to her hubby she wants to get it re-made.
Some of the changes included making it modular. Rather than a single piece, the desk is made up of four units, brought together with one glass plate over top.
“It’s made it more user-friendly, We can clean the glass more easily if we ever need to move it or change the layout.” says Turet.
Marque from Cabinetry Complete enjoyed working on the piece – which he describes as “some of our most elegant work to date”.
Veneer (colour: walnut) was the material of choice, a great option that combines style with strength and durability.
The internal drawers are dark oak pure grain melamine, and a bronze 6mm glass top completed the look.
Marque made sure everything was grain matched, and we used a dark brown stain to give the piece some extra warmth.
