The Perfect Chill Out

What if you were sitting on an underused room in your house - maybe the kids have all grown up and moved out, or perhaps there’s a small study or nook which is seeing more dust settle than people using it.

Either way, it is a great opportunity to indulge yourself a little and create a room for nothing more than having a cosy spot to retreat too.

For Anne Monnier, revamping a spare room was exactly what her home needed: creating a ‘chill out’ space complete with a day bed that also included extra storage was a no brainer.

With Karl Ross, founder of Next Level Kitchen, they transformed an underused room, located just off the garage, into a space with purpose and function that looks great too.

Cabinet maker Karl designed the cabinetry for the room and used Cutshop® to cut out the finished cabinets.

Choosing a mixture of materials, with 30mm dark oak melamine and 18mm white Futura HPL Plywood for the cabinets, Anne decided to keep the edges raw and polished with oil and chose to forgo handles for handle cutouts instead. They selected the oak for a wood grain effect.

The machining is exceptionally good and I am incredibly happy with the edging quality as well. Everything is predrilled and labelled so it is super easy to install.

Design tip from Karl - drawers under a daybed are a great way to store things underneath, no need to lift the swabs. Also, the use of handle cut-outs eliminates any issues with clothes snagging on handles and creates a streamlined look.
